Esso Medals & Certificates of Achievement
Program History

Over the years, the Esso brand has become synonymous with hockey. Imperial Oil and the Esso brand have been closely linked to Canada's national sport since the 1930s.

Since then, Imperial Oil under the Esso brand has broadened its support of the game with its involvement at the amateur level and its commitment to grassroots hockey. Through this successful association, young hockey players are encouraged to challenge themselves and "dream big."

At the cornerstone of Imperial Oil's involvement with minor hockey is the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement program. Established in 1981, the program has become part of the fabric of Canadian community hockey. The program is about much more than athletic achievement. Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement rewards the attributes that will help build champions in life, not just on the ice.

To date, nearly 2 million Esso Medals of Achievement and over 30 million Certificates of Participation have been awarded to young boys and girls all across Canada on behalf of Imperial Oil.
