2008/2009 DREAM BIG Contest Rules & Regulations



1. How to Enter


This contest is open to any resident of Canada associated with a minor hockey team registered with Hockey Canada, over the age of majority in their province of residence, except as otherwise provided below. Each time such person:

(a) registers a minor hockey team or association in the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement program on-line at www.essomedals.ca; or

(b) completes the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement brochure and mails or faxes to Hockey Canada, Father David Bauer Arena, 2424 University Dr. NW, Calgary, AB T2N 3Y9 (403) 777-3636;

during the period of October 1, 2008 through to and including February 28, 2009, that person will receive one (1) contest entry.

All contest entries must be received no later than 12:00 midnight (EST) February 28, 2009 to be automatically entered into the contest.

There is no limit on the number of entries provided each entry as outlined above supports a separate hockey team/association.


2. The Prizes


There will be four (4) individual prize packs awarded, one (1) each for: the Atlantic Region consisting of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland; for Quebec; for Ontario; and the Western Region consisting of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, Nunavut and the North West Territories. Each prize pack will consist of: one (1) Professional Canadian Hockey Team Jersey autographed by a player, five (5) $100 ESSO Gift Cards totaling $500CDN; one (1) Hockey Canada apparel package including a hat and t-shirt. Prize allocation and distribution will be at the sole discretion of Imperial Oil.

Approximate retail value of each prize is $750.00 CDN


3. Draw


A random draw will be conducted by an independent judging organization on March 6, 2009 at or shortly after 2:00 p.m. (EST), in the offices of T1 Fulfillment at 5605 McAdam Road, Mississauga, Ontario, L4Z 1N4.

In the event that due to a communication, printing, production or systems error or any other error, more than one participant is selected for one of the prizes, there will be a random draw conducted amongst all such participants to select only one selected entrant for each prize.

The chances of being selected for the prizes depends upon the number of eligible entries received from across Canada during the contest period.


4. Other Conditions


(a) The selected entrant(s) who are eligible for the prizes will initially be notified by telephone. In order to be declared a winner, the selected entrant must correctly answer unaided, a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question by phone at a predetermined mutually convenient time. The winners (or their parent/legal guardian if a minor) will be required to sign a standard declaration and release form, confirming compliance with the contest rules and releasing Imperial Oil, its partners and affiliates and their respective advertising and promotional agencies and the independent judging organization from all liability. In the event a selected entrant cannot be contacted within fourteen (14) days of the draw or is found to be ineligible, the selected entrant will forfeit the prize claim and another entrant will be selected

(b) The winner is responsible for the proper use of prizes once awarded and acceptance of the prizes as awarded confirm compliance with the contest rules and releases Imperial Oil, its partners and affiliates and their respective advertising and promotional agencies and the independent judging organization from all liability. Imperial Oil is not responsible for any failure of the computer system for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or failure of any prize notification to be received. There will be no substitution for, or transfer of the prizes unless Imperial Oil in its sole discretion transfers the prize or substitutes the prize with a prize of equivalent kind or value for any reason whatsoever. The prizes are not redeemable for cash.

(c) The contest is not open to any employees of Imperial Oil, its partners and affiliates, representatives and agents, and their respective advertising and promotional agencies, the independent judging organization, and all persons with whom they are domiciled.

(d) All decisions of the independent judging organization are final. Imperial Oil, its partners and affiliates and their respective advertising and promotional agencies and the independent judging organization, each assume no responsibility for entries which are lost, stolen, misdirected, destroyed, delayed or not entered due to a systems error. Imperial Oil reserves the right to change the terms of this contest or terminate it at any time, without prior notice, subject in Québec to the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux.

(e) All entries become the property of Imperial Oil and none will be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with the selected entrant(s) who are eligible for the prizes who will be notified by mail or telephone and informed of all necessary arrangements. Entrants, by entering this contest, agree to abide by these contest rules and the decisions of the judges which are final, and the winner must consent to the use of their name or photograph, without compensation, in any future publicity carried out by Imperial Oil in connection with this contest or in connection with any other promotion carried out by Imperial Oil or both.

(f) Imperial Oil, with the consent (in Québec) of the the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, reserves the right to cancel, suspend or amend this contest in the event of any accident, administrative or other error of any kind.

(g) For Québec residents, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of this publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purposes of helping the parties reach a settlement.

(h) This contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. Any contest entries not complying with any applicable federal, provincial or municipal laws or regulations will be considered null and void.
